After an astounding second season, Gravity Falls promises more of the same in its third season. The show is set to release on October 27th. It follows two siblings who get lost in the woods after their Great Uncle Stan leaves them with his ramshackle house and all of the secrets it contains, including journals written by their late grandfather, who made some very unusual discoveries. Season 3 seems like it will be another story-packed adventure for Dipper and Mable Pines as they return to Gravity Falls after their time spent in Arizona. The series was renewed for a third season on February 24, 2013. On July 11, 2014, Jason Ritter tweeted he would be leaving Gravity Falls after Season 3 ended. The first feature film based on the characters was originally announced to be released in 2017. However it is now planned for 2020. The film will reportedly have no relation to the show or its plot, outside of being set in the same universe, with the movie being closer to a horror film than an action-adventure. This sequel will feature Mabel as she grows older and deals with struggles such as her supernatural abilities. The film will be directed by A. Jay Sanderson. As of March 2017, the movie is in post-production and slated for a 2020 release, with a planned budget of $90 million. Matt Chapman and Ben Bocquelet will return as the voices of Mabel and Dipper Pines, respectively. According to R.J. Mitte's father, the actor is not allowed to talk about the film while it is in production due to a non-disclosure agreement with Disney. The original voice actors are set to return for this new film, which will be written by Josh Weinstein, who will also write the screenplays for "Trollhunters" and "Boxtrolls".The series has received positive reviews from critics on its first two seasons.
